Coming Home, On Her Own Timeline

Cindy Thierry July 26, 2026

After more than 40 years away, one client made the decision to move back to the St. Louis area where she grew up. She was confident she knew exactly what she wanted in a home. But it turns out the city had grown and changed since she was 19 — and so had she. The home she thought she had in mind wasn't quite the one she needed to find.

That's where the real search began.

A Search That Needed Room to Breathe

This wasn't a "see three houses and pick one" kind of search. My client needed space to explore — touring homes, townhouses, and condos across different parts of the city while she figured out what "home" actually meant to her now, decades removed from the place she remembered.

At the same time, we were searching in a fast-moving market. More than once, she called me in a bit of a panic, worried a property she liked would be gone before she could see it. And every time, we made it work.

By her own admission, she's not a fast decision-maker. The home she eventually chose was one we walked through together several times before she felt sure.

Meeting Buyers Where They Are

I believe a home search should move at the buyer's pace, not the market's pace or mine. For this client, that meant:

  • Being available when it mattered. Last-minute showings before a competitive listing disappeared? No problem, no stress on her end.
  • Showing up prepared. I made sure I had the information we needed before we ever walked through the door, so our time together could focus on the home itself, not paperwork.
  • Guiding without pushing. My job is to make sure buyers have everything they need to make a confident decision — and then let them make it, without judgment.
  • Treating patience as part of the process. Going back to the same property three or four times isn't a delay. It's part of how some people arrive at certainty. I met her there every time with the same energy as the first visit.

The Result

She found her home — one that fit the person she'd become, not just the person she remembered being. In her words:

"So many things I loved about searching with Cindy including her ability to give me everything I needed but allowing me to make my own decisions without judgment... I would choose her again and again and will recommend her highly to everyone I know who is searching for the perfect place."

The Takeaway

Not every buyer searches the same way. Some know what they want the moment they walk in the door. Others need to see a dozen homes — or the same home a dozen times — before it clicks. Whichever kind of buyer you are, I'll meet you at your pace, not the other way around.

If you're searching for the right place to call home in St. Louis, I'd love to help you find it.
